What property modifications will keep down the Sandy Springs rat populations?
Regardless of what you do, there at some point there will be a Georgia rat in your home. Whether there are extenuating conditions, like a fire in the bush close to you, that will force the rat population to seek refuge, or just bad luck. There are ways that you can diminish your chances of being the unlucky landlord to a family of rats.
What can you do?
• Probably the most important thing that you can do is to ensure that there is no way for the Sandy Springs rats to enter your property. This means that you need to check every little nook and cranny, as rats can enter your home through holes that you are not even aware are there.
• Be sure to check places where pipes enter your home, they are not always closed off correctly.
• Close your toilet lid. This seems like a bizarre request, but rats can enter your home through sewer pipes.
• Make sure that there aren’t any dripping pipes. If there isn’t a steady supply of water, then a rat will not want to live in your home. By eliminating their source of water it will force then to go outside to find another.
• Close your doors and windows. This seems arbitrary, but Georgia rats are very quick and will enter your property without you knowing it. If you notice that there are a lot of rats in your area, or the neighbors are complaining, make sure to close any access points.
• Make sure to pull appliances away from the walls. Rats often chew through the skirting board and can comfortably live behind your appliances without you knowing.
• Make sure that there are no holes in your floorboards. This is one of the main areas where Sandy Springs rats will enter your home. Make sure that you replace floorboards as soon as you notice that they are broken or loose.
• Check under your sink. Rats often get into your wall cavities, if the hole where your waste pipe enters the wall isn’t closed off properly rats can easily enter through there. You will need to close of these holes with expanding foam, or plaster.
• Check the foundation of your house. If there are any holes in the foundation they should be closed off immediately. The best way to do this would be to use expanding foam, this will fill the hole completely and form an airtight seal.
• Make sure that there are no entry points on your roof. Check that all tiles and shingles are in place.
